Joint Letter From Chair and Superintendent Regarding Investigation
Dear Sharon Community,
We write to you today with heavy hearts. From Dr. Greer’s perspective as Superintendent of Sharon Public Schools and Jonathan Hitter’s perspective as chairman of the Sharon School Committee, we are deeply committed to Sharon Public Schools, its students, its alumni, its faculty and staff and its mission overall. A school should be a safe, welcoming and affirming place and we work very hard to ensure that it is.
In December 2018, teacher Brad Lengas was placed on suspension. The district moved to terminate his employment at the school in February 2019 after he was criminally charged with indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and accosting/annoying a person of the opposite sex. The district finalized the termination of Brad Lengas in March of 2019.
The Sharon School Committee has decided to proceed with an independent investigation into the allegations regarding Brad Lengas. An experienced investigator, Sarah Worley, has been retained to do this important work in line with our principles. Specifically, we are guided by the following goals:
- Ensuring the safety of our students;
- Protecting the privacy of and showing compassion for any victims and/or witnesses;
- Treating our faculty and staff fairly; and
- Being as transparent as possible with the community, while maintaining the school’s duty to preserve the safety of students, well-being of any victims, and privacy of all faculty and staff.
Sarah’s website, www.worleyconflictresolution.com, contains detailed information on her background; she has extensive experience in this area as a certified civil rights and Title IX investigator and has conducted investigations for K-12 public and private schools, colleges, and universities. Sarah can be reached by phone at 617-419-1900 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We encourage anyone in the Sharon community to contact Sarah directly with information about these allegations or any other allegations.
