Friday, March 22 - Day 4

Sharon Middle School Parents and Guardians,

On Thursday March 14th, I gathered each grade level to address the anxiety that students have experienced in light of the recent events at Sharon High School.

I reassured students that their safety is our highest priority. We are committed to ensure that they are comfortable and confident in sharing their thoughts, ideas and concerns, and will support these efforts through assemblies, our advisory groups and our guidance department.

We also addressed and clarified many of the rumors that we have heard. To clarify, we would immediately notify our school community if any teacher was placed on administrative leave or suspended due violations of their employment or the law. Please refer to Dr. Greer's letter which outlines the work that has already occurred in the district and that will continue and evolve.

We spent time with the students reviewing the school committee policy that defines sexual harassment. We shared the process for reporting issues or concerns, emphasizing that a student should report to a trusted adult. This can be teacher, guidance counselor, administrator, or parent. It is important to know that there is a process and that we take that process very seriously regarding all reports.  A thorough investigation will follow any report. Parents will be notified if their child reports any concerns to us. The process is something that will be carefully and confidentially followed.

As a school we will work to ensure that all students and staff are safe.

We are committed to ensuring an inclusive and safe learning environment.

Principal
