Great Start!

We have had a terrific first two days.  Even with the very hot days our students and staff did a great job to start with a smile.  A huge Thank you to the SMS custodial staff for their hard work making our school so clean.   The staff  have done a terrific job in getting organized and ready to go with a large number of new students here at SMS.   The students all found their way and brought such great energy and life back to school.

 

Sharon Middle School Community day and SMS Reads Book Clubs Friday 9/7

On Friday September 7th we will run a special schedule and hold our annual SMS Reads book clubs for our summer reading. We will also hold our annual SMS Community Day.  We will spend time working together, having some fun and setting some norms of how we treat one another.

 

Open House Nights

Sharon Middle School Open House Nights for parents and guardians are Wednesday, September 12th for grade  6 and Thursday, September 13th  for grade 7 and 8.  Grade 6 parents will start in their child’s advisory.  

Students will bring home schedules for parents to bring with them. 

At 6:40 pm Special Education teachers will be in their classrooms for parents of students on IEPs.

 

School Pictures

School pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 20.  Students will bring home forms from the photography company for parents to choose picture packages. Students should bring their picture forms and payment to the photographers on Picture Day.

 

 

SMS PTO Directory OPT Out

The SMS PTO will be publishing a directory of ALL students enrolled for the 2018-2019 school year which will include the following:

 

Student Name, Parent Name(s), Address, Phone Number,and Parent Email(s)

 

PTO will use the current PowerSchool database to obtain these details which can be verified by logging onto the PowerSchool website (http://sharon.powerschool.com).

 

If you do not want your personal contact information published, please complete and send the attached OPT-OUT-FORM to the SMS office, attention Mr. Kevin O’Rourke by September 7, 2018.

If any edits need to be made to your demographic contact information, please do so on the PowerSchool website before September 4, 2018.

 

 

Sharon Middle School Cross Country Team Information:

Sharon Middle School Cross Country Team is gearing up for its 4th season!

 

The team is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders.   

 

Practices are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-4:00. 

 

Signups must be done online at familyid.com.  You can find the SMS link under Sharon High School.  The cost for the program is $95 – checks can be made payable to Sharon Middle School.  All athletes must submit a current physical before they will be allowed to compete.  Please deliver both items to the office or Mrs. Kaplan in room 310 before the start of the season.

 

The first practice will be held on Wednesday 9/12.   Please send your runner with a healthy snack, refillable water bottle, running clothes and sneakers.  At the end of the school day all runners should change, fill water bottles and meet the coaches on the track by 2:30. 

 

We compete against other middle schools in the Hockomock League and races are approximately 3K in distance.  This is a program geared toward introducing middle school students to the sport of distance running while keeping it fun.  All levels of experience are welcome.

 

The meet schedule is almost confirmed and will be emailed to all participants during the first  week of practice.

The SMS PTO is organized for the purpose of supporting the education of children at the Sharon Middle School by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. Sponsors of the SMS PTO get a FREE SMS Directory. The Sharon Middle School PTO is a 501(c)(3) organization. The cost to sponsor the SMS PTO is $40.

 

Show your school spirit and sponsor the 2018-19 SMS PTO online now! You may also print the linked membership form and send in cash or check (made out to the SMS PTO) in an envelope marked "SMS PTO Sponsorship" in the SMS office. As a reminder, it's tax deductible and sponsors receive the internal satisfaction of taking an action that will improve the quality of life at SMS for themselves and their children. Sponsors will also receive a free copy of the SMS directory.

Canton Special Olympics Soccer Program

In September, Special Olympics MA plans to start its fifteenth Soccer season in Canton.  This program is open to all students in grades 2-12. Soccer is part of the program created by the partnership of Canton Public Schools, Canton parents, Canton Recreational Dept. and Special Olympics Massachusetts to provide year-round athletic training and competition.  In the winter we offer Basketball and in the spring we offer Track & Field.
