  • Hi Parents! We are having a wonderful start to the new school year. I am very much enjoying getting to know all of your students. We have spent the last two weeks getting to know each other and starting to build a fantastic and supportive classroom community. We have been doing some activities regarding identity, including making identity webs, writing “Where I’m From” poems, and starting to write Name Stories. Below are our academic focuses in each subject for the following weeks:

    Math: Adding and Subtracting Fractions

    Writing: Narrative Writing

    Reading: Analyzing Themes/Interpretation Books Clubs

    Social Studies: Map Skills

The students will begin science next week with Ms.Matton. In terms of homework, for the first few weeks the only homework I am assigning is 30 minutes of independent reading every night. Each student has a reading log in their take home folder where they should be keeping track of their reading. I would like students to be reading the same book at home as they are at school so I can really get to know their habits as readers.

    Important Dates:

    • September 12th: Picture Day
    • September 19th: Open House and PTO Book Fair
    • September 24th: Early Release

Just a reminder that we have instruments every Thursday and chorus will begin on Wednesday, the 11th.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email. I am looking forward to meeting everybody at the open house!

    Rachel Briones
