  • Happy New Year!!

    Dear Parents,

The new year is a great time to reflect and set new goals. By helping out children set goals we can help our children build a positive perception of themselves as well as help them build a strong work ethic. I am a firm believer in the power of the growth mindset and approach each new year with the belief that all of my students are capable of learning and growth. You are probably wondering, what is a growth mindset? A growth mindset is the belief that abilities can be developed through effort and practice. Children with a growth mindset persist in the face of challenges because they understand that effort and hard work is what is most important. A fixed mindset is the belief that intelligence is static, and cannot be changed. When children are in a fixed mindset, they tend to give up easily when they encounter obstacles because they believe that they don’t have what it takes to learn hard things. Each day, your child will be immersed in the growth mindset in our small groups and in their classrooms. They will be asked to take educational risks and praised not for their mental quickness or natural intelligence but for approaching the process of learning with grit and determination.

Visit helpful links to learn more ways you can extend and promote a growth mindset in your home. You will also find a list of picture books that can help you start the conversation.

I hope you will commit to joining me on this growth-mindset journey. I cannot do it without your help.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Fitzgerald
