    Dear Families,

Today we began using a reading site called Epic. This site offers more reading choses to students beyond my classroom library. Tomorrow I will introduce the students to Khan Academy and they will be given in class assignments to help them with problem solving and as a way to review their math skills. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and Happy New Year!

    Dear Families,

We have been very busy learning in Room 203. Students have been working on theme in their book club books and finding evidence within the text to support their theme. Please be sure to check in with your student about their current fiction book report DUE DECEMBER 7TH.

Students were introduced to Osmo last week first with using shapes and tangrams. Later in the week, our class was able to use the Newton app with Osmo to help our 3rd grade learning buddies further understand the laws of motion. Please check out the photo gallery on our page.

In science, we have been working on mixtures, solutions, and chemical reactions. Students have conducted several experiments by creating their own procedures to prove their thinking. Again, please check out the photo gallery to see the students in action during science.

A few students from the class also joined my Famished for Fantasy book club that is being funded by the Sharon Education Foundation. The first book club is The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Unfortunately, I can only accept three students from each fifth grade class. Students seemed excited to be part of this opportunity and to share their thinking about books with students from other classes. There will be two other Famished for Fantasy book clubs run later in the year.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
