    Dear Families,

Today we had the pleasure of having Mr. O'Rourke as our guest reader for Read Across America Day. Students also looked great in their costumes.

We are wrapping up our social issue book clubs and will be starting books in verse next week. We are working on writing and solving equations in math. In science, we are in our Earth and Sun unit. In social studies, students are researching the 13 colonies in expert groups and they will present their knowledge.

We would greatly appreciate any donations of tissues or wipes for our classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns as always please reach out to me.

    Dear Families,

Please check out the photo gallery. Students did a great job creating worm composting bins as our final project in our ecosystems unit. Students used the design process in order to do this. Check it out! (unfortuntately some photos wouldn't load, but I will keep trying to get more up on the page).

In reading, students are working in their social issues book clubs. Students are discussing and writing about their social issues while citing evidence to suppport their thinking.

In math, we just started our division unit and student received math journal 2 today!

We are also wrapping up our explorer's unit this week in social studies. I hope all is well and as always please email me with any questions.

    Dear Families,

Today we began using a reading site called Epic. This site offers more reading choses to students beyond my classroom library. Tomorrow I will introduce the students to Khan Academy and they will be given in class assignments to help them with problem solving and as a way to review their math skills. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and Happy New Year!

  • End of October/Beginning of November Update

Posted by Kelly-Jean Susi on 11/5/2018 3:00:00 PM

    Dear Families,

We have been very busy learning in Room 203. Students have been working on theme in their book club books and finding evidence within the text to support their theme. Please be sure to check in with your student about their current fiction book report DUE DECEMBER 7TH.

Students were introduced to Osmo last week first with using shapes and tangrams. Later in the week, our class was able to use the Newton app with Osmo to help our 3rd grade learning buddies further understand the laws of motion. Please check out the photo gallery on our page.

In science, we have been working on mixtures, solutions, and chemical reactions. Students have conducted several experiments by creating their own procedures to prove their thinking. Again, please check out the photo gallery to see the students in action during science.

A few students from the class also joined my Famished for Fantasy book club that is being funded by the Sharon Education Foundation. The first book club is The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Unfortunately, I can only accept three students from each fifth grade class. Students seemed excited to be part of this opportunity and to share their thinking about books with students from other classes. There will be two other Famished for Fantasy book clubs run later in the year.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
