    Please read the statement, and sign below indicating that you will abide by the SPS Acceptable Use Policy and this Responsible Use Agreement.

    Use of Sharon Schools technology including all hardware, software and networks, is a privilege, not a right, and is intended to help students advance learning, enhance communication, and make their work more effective and efficient. For and in consideration of the privilege of using the Sharon Public Schools network, applications and/or devices, I hereby agree to use all SPS technology resources in a safe, ethical, and legal fashion. The following four categories demonstrate a responsible way to use SPS technology, and by signing below, I am agreeing to follow these rules and responsibilities.

    • Protect      and Respect School Property. I will be respectful of school technology      within the building or at home. It      is my responsibility to use all devices carefully and keep them safe. I will use technology in school for      learning, understanding concepts in my classes, and sharing ideas with      others. I understand that changing any      connection or configuration of an SPS device may not be done without clear      permission from a teacher or technology staff. I will not waste resources (such as      paper or bandwidth).
    • Protect and Respect      Myself. I will only log in to a computer as      myself. I won’t try to connect as      anyone else. I will keep my      personal information to myself (including passwords). I will use the network and any      applications for learning and communicating positively. I won’t try to damage devices or      software, download anything without permission, use unauthorized      applications, or interfere with the network in any way. If I become aware of any misuse of SPS      technology, I will inform a teacher or staff member immediately.
    • Respect Others. I will not use computers or tablets or the SPS network to say anything inappropriate, or unkind things about others, or to bully or tease others, and will inform a staff member if I become aware of such things happening. I will use electronic devices for learning, not for distractions at all, and will stop using devices, owned by SPS or others, immediately on being asked by a staff member. I will not record pictures, video or voice of anyone in school without express permission by them AND a teacher/staff member.
    • Respect Others’      Ideas. I will not plagiarize (copy other      people’s work/ideas (including words, photos, videos)) from websites or      other digital sources and call it my own.       Appropriate permission will be granted and credit given for any information      source.


    • Respect the Acceptable Use Policy requirements including Legal Responsibilities.

    I hereby indemnify and hold harmless the Sharon School Department, School Committee, and Town of Sharon, and all their past, present and future committees, officers, officials, agents, servants, employees, attorneys, and administrators (hereinafter collectively referred to as "Sharon") against any and all injury, loss, or damage and any and all claims for injury, loss, or damage, of whatever nature caused by or resulting from, or claimed to have been caused by or to have resulted from my participation in or use of the SPS network or devices. Furthermore, to the fullest extent permitted by law, I hereby release Sharon of and from all demands, causes of action, suits, damages, and any and all claims, demands, and liabilities whatsoever which I may have against Sharon on account of my participation in or use of the SPS network or devices. I agree not to hold Sharon responsible for the performance of the SPS network system or the content of any material accessed or received through it. I understand that my use may be monitored to assure compliance with all policies and laws. I understand that I will be held accountable for all activities including, but not limited to, the content of material sent by mail, news or any other means using my account privileges. I agree to act in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, and any guidelines established by the Sharon School Committee, or the Sharon School Department. Violation of any such policies, including this RUP, the AUP of the Sharon Schools or any Personal Device policy, may result in termination of my privileges to use the SPS network or devices and/or disciplinary follow-up. I understand that any violation of the regulations above is unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation, my access privileges may be revoked and school disciplinary action and/or appropriate legal action may be taken. I will be responsible for any intentional damage caused to any school technology. (TWO SIGNATURES below must be completed.)

    PARENT OR GUARDIAN and STUDENT: By signing below, I agree that I have read and will abide by the terms of the above Responsible Use Agreement and the Terms and Conditions for use of SPS technology resources (SPS Acceptable Use Policy). I understand access to SPS network and devices is designed for educational purposes. I understand that the SPS network is in compliance with Child Internet Protection Act, and that filtering and blocking of inappropriate content is part of school access to the Internet. I also recognize that it is impossible for SPS to restrict access to all controversial materials and I will not hold SPS responsible for materials acquired on the network. (Parent/Guardians) I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child's use is not in a school setting. I further agree to be fully responsible for this agreement signed by my child above. Access may be restricted or removed for any violations of this R.U.A. or the general SPS A.U.P. Parents/guardians may request withdrawal of access at any time by notifying, in writing, the building principal or superintendent of schools.
