SHELTERED ENGLISH IMMERSION
Students enrolled in the Sharon Public Schools who are English language learners (i.e. limited English proficient) will be taught through the use of sheltered English immersion, unless they have received a waiver from the requirements of G.L. c. 71 A.
Waivers for individual students may be provided at the discretion of the Principal and Superintendent under certain conditions if the parent or guardian applies annually by completing the necessary paperwork at the school. When requesting a waiver, parents are provided with a complete description, in a language they are comfortable with, of the educational materials to be used in the different educational program choices and the educational opportunities available to the student.
Parents may appeal denied waiver requests. However, the final decision on waiver requests remains with the district.
