    The Principal, working with the School Council, shall be responsible for preparing a written School Improvement Plan each year. This plan shall be written with the advice of the School Council and submitted for approval by the Superintendent and to the School Committee for review. The educational goals for the school laid out in the plan should be consistent with the goals and standards of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and with the School Committee's goals for the district.

    The plan should assess and/or address:

    • Specific needs or action items required in order to achieve the goals of the plan,
    • Adequacy of staff in proportion to student population,
    • Maintenance of a safe, respectful and orderly school environment,
    • Professional development for the professional staff of the school,
    • Enhancement of parental involvement in the life of the school,
    • The development of means for meeting the diverse learning needs of every child,
    • Extracurricular activities,
    • Any further subjects that the Principal, in consultation with the School Council, shall consider appropriate, except those that fall outside the scope of authority of the School Council.

    The School Improvement Plan of each school in the district will be submitted to the Superintendent for approval by July 1 of the year in which the plan is to be implemented.
